For those new to mailing lists..
The address
superstatz at mastodon.ew3d.com
is the address for the SuperStatZ mailing list. Any message sent to this
email address is delivered to all of the subscribers on this list. All
members are free to ask new questions, add useful hints and talk about
anything relating to SuperStatZ.
The email sent to this list is archived by subject. For that reason, it
is considered a polite practice to start a new email, intead of replying
to an old one, if you have a new topic/question/concern. For this same
reason, it is polite to create a descriptive subject. Not too long, but
enough to make sense to someone looking through the archives. The
archive itself with time becomes a great tool.
Some members may choose to receive from this list in 'digest' mode. What
this does is compile emails into a group and either at a particular time
or at a certain number of emails a digest is sent with all collected
emails in one digest. It is considered polite to not top post, but to
trim and bottom post when submitting to a list. This saves bandwidth and
keeps those in digest mode happy. It also keeps the archives clean.
Otherwise, we expect clean language, polite postings and will not
tolerate fighting or cursing. Yes, we know... it seems that every
mailing list at some time or another goes into the basement. We'll do
what we can to pull it out quickly, even if we have to unsubscribe users
from this list. We would like this list to try to stay on topic...
SuperStatZ... we know that from time to time it will reach out beyond
what some may consider pertanent. If it goes too far off topic, you may
hear from one of the list moderaters to put an end to it. We're not here
to discuss the size of the spots on a Jack Russell Terrior...
Have fun! Fire away with any questions! And so that this email has a bit
of SuperStatZ meat in it...
We have noticed that quite a few of you have not discovered the ability
to customize your 'Custom Sites' list. This can be done from within the
'User Admin' area. Scroll down a bit to the first large input box. Place
one per line, your referrers. We put in a couple of search engines as
the default so you could see how it works. For some of you the list will
contain only search engines, but for many, search engines really don't
help here but instead you should include sites like paid directories.
The order in which you list them here is the order in which they will be
displayed on the 'Custom List' page.
Using the shortest term possible (up until the point of conflict) is a
best practice. For instance, ew3d.com will return all the results from
http://ew3d.com and http://www.ew3d.com. But, it will also return
http://mastodon.ew3d.com. If that is not what you want, you may need to
get a bit creative. Sometimes there's just no way around a conflict and
you may need to create two entries, for instance both www.ew3d.com and
/ew3d.com. These would keep mastodon.ew3d.com from showing up in the
results, but would put your results into two entries, so some adding
would be needed.
Best,
John Hinton
